The Šilo – Crikvenica Swimming Marathon is the oldest swimming marathon in the Adriatic, with a history stretching back over a century — it was first held in 1910.

The Šilo–Crikvenica Swimming Marathon is one of the most renowned swimming events in the Adriatic and the oldest swimming marathon in Croatia. It takes place every year on August 15th, on the feast of the Assumption, the patron saint of Crikvenica.

This unique race connects Šilo on the island of Krk with Crikvenica on the mainland across a roughly 3.5 km sea channel, which swimmers cross each year in a beautiful summer atmosphere.

The race usually starts in the morning around 10:00 a.m. in Šilo, and the finish line is at the western pier in Crikvenica, where the event concludes with an awards ceremony and social gathering for participants and spectators.

The marathon attracts swimmers from Croatia and abroad, including professionals and recreational swimmers who enjoy the challenge and the summer swimming adventure. Participation is open to all age groups, and registration usually closes a few weeks before the event.

Beyond its sporting aspect, the marathon is also a social event, with cheering spectators, boat escorts, and a friendly atmosphere, making it one of the most attractive summer events on the Kvarner coast.
